				<dt><a href=Steven Gerrard. An inspiration. A motivator. A leader. A legend.

Within the opening five minutes at Boundary Park on late Sunday afternoon, I could sense that Liverpool were in for a long afternoon and boy was I right! A goal down, sloppy passing and vulnerable defending was witnessed and Oldham were in their element. Once Luis Suarez had equalised I did then go onto believe we would then settle down and cruise through to the 5th round however it went the complete opposite and Brendan Rodgers’ men suffered an embarrassing 3-2 defeat against a side two divisions below.

I opened my twitter account shortly after, and saw ludicrous tweets such as; ‘Rodgers Out’ and ‘Bring Back Rafa’ (yes the same Rafa who a couple of hours beforehand had to watch his arguably more talented Chelsea stars earn a replay at League One Brentford, same division as Oldham). Everyone is entitled to their opinions however the same tweeters were praising Rodgers’ team selection prior to kick off, the fact that he had included a majority of first team players who have been around the squad all season, therefore you cannot blame the manager if players who should perform don’t. They also seem to forget the Burnley and Barnsley defeats that we had under Benitez with a more talented squad. The F.A. Cup always has shocks in it and unfortunately we were one of the teams, along with QPR and Norwich that suffered it this year. Saying that, the team that we had out should of beaten Oldham and I have no problem with Brendan Rodgers’ post match comments that have been broadcasted generating a negative vibe. If you’re going to be playing for Liverpool Football Club on a regular basis, then you have to turn up every single game, regardless of the opposition and too many didn’t show this attitude on Sunday. At this club, you are going to be expected to play in Europe and Domestic competitions all the time because that is the pressure of being at a club like Liverpool. There were more than enough experienced players playing in red on Sunday that have all played in big games and have experience to cope therefore there can be no excuses for the disastrous display that was produced. They let the fans and the manager down and need to take some responsibility for that. A massive performance is needed against Arsenal tomorrow night and then again on Sunday when we travel to take on the champions Manchester City.

We reached The F.A. Cup final last season and won the Carling Cup. Our only chance of silverware this season is the Europa League and after Sunday that becomes a big priority if it already wasn’t. We also need to keep progressing in the Premier League and get as close as we can to that Champions League spot. If we manage to succeed in both, then we can class that as progress and say we are on the right road to strengthen before starting again next August. If we don’t, and finish off the pace in both the League and in Europe then some of those players who fell short at Oldham will be playing their trade at another level come time for the 2013-2014 kick off.
