				<dt><a href=Steven Gerrard. An inspiration. A motivator. A leader. A legend.

Before home games at Anfield, there is a small group in The Sandon Pub nearby that have a general discussion each week. There is myself with my relatives and friends amongst other regulars of the pub on a match day. The debates vary each week however, there is one that is discussed on each occasion; Brendan Rodgers.

The opinion is split right down the middle between Liverpool fans. Some think he will be the answer to our prayers, others think he is out of his depth and not good enough. Let’s face it; we don’t really know how good he is. His CV up to now for any young coach though is very impressive. He has had the best apprenticeship working under the so called ‘Special One’ in Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, steered Watford away from Championship relegation on limited resources and got Swansea City promoted to the Premier League with a breathtaking brand of football. The only disaster has been at Reading however that experience probably helped him go on to create what he did at Swansea.

I like Rodgers. He speaks very well and can handle the media that so many experienced managers fail to do. He is also very motivated and dedicated to the way he wants to work. We have seen glimpses on the documentary ‘Being Liverpool’ that he won’t take any backchat from players and let’s them know who’s boss. All are good signs to show that he will become a very successful manager, hopefully at Liverpool. He has been brought in by the Americans as their first real appointment. They both share the same philosophy and vision therefore he should get the time needed to be a success. Saying that football is a cut throat business and results are needed to keep anyone in their job these days. Since I have been following Liverpool, I have grown under five managers including Rodgers. I can honestly say I am more excited about his reign than I have been of any of his predecessors. He has stated on many occasions that his life is devoted to making Liverpool great again and he wants to build a dynasty here. Ex-players, legends of the club have all given the thumbs up to him. I am not just saying this now to cover my opinion however when Kenny was removed from his post last summer, if FSG were going for a young coach rather than an experienced one, then I was hoping it be Rodgers. Purely based on the fact of how Swansea played in their debut season in the Premier League. There have been a few suggestions to say Rodgers is lucky to be in such a big job. It just shows how much he has progressed in coaching to me. I mean starting of at bottom of the championship Watford only four years ago and making a journey to Liverpool; five times champions of Europe, one off the biggest stages in world football. I cannot class that as a fluke.

I think given time, we will see positive results and a successful period for the football club. I am not saying he is going to be the messiah and win this and that but what I am saying is, I think he can help us get back to the level we should be i.e. Champions League football on a regular basis and from then onwards time will tell as to whether he can take us to the next step. I will give him the backing for the duration of his three year contract and most of my debating partners in The Sandon will too. It would be interesting to see if Kopites worldwide share the same view as me or of those who think we have made another mistake which will require another change anytime soon.
